Natural Theatre Company
Thursday, 1st May, 2003
The Natural Theatre Company, in the persons of George and George, visited the school to give a workshop to Year 6, and carry out what they call "interactions" around the school during the lunch break
Once the Georges had each resumed her true identity, they set about introducing their work to the pupils, performed nationally and internationally for over 30 years from their base in Bath
Then a series of exercises to get everyone in the mood - from calling out your name going round the circle in rhythm, to trying out all sorts of ways of shaking hands ...
... to projecting in silence, expressions of different emotional states
By now everyone was warmed up enough to split up into 5 groups, each of which had to prepare and perform a situation given them ...
... such as 'at the office' ...
... 'an accident' (liberally interpreted on this occasion ...
... or a party
After these essentially visual tasks, the brief switched to one where use of sound alone was to be relied upon ... with the 'switching on of the radio'
After a further series of exercises involving the imagination ...
... a treasure-store of headgear was provided as props for realising another series of situations ...
... which included a wedding ...
... complete with hugely weeping mother-of-the-bride ...
... and even an act which an earlier generation would have taken to be Wilson, Keppel and Betty
Finally, the workshop was wound down with some collective breathing exercises
