Weather in the first part of the season has been reasonably kind and our teams have mostly seen a good amount of cricket. The 1sts have performed strongly to move to third position in their division after six games, with four wins and a tied match against Bear Flat.

Opening batsman Mike Clements tops the division's batting averages having scored 302 runs, including a century and three 50s. Good batting support has been provided by Mick Edmunds and Oscar Wimshurst, and young spinner Adam Whiting has bowled impressively, taking 5 for 19 against Stratton. The 2nds have had a mixed period, although the side has given good experience to a number of promising players from the youth teams.

The Under 17s have achieved three league wins so far, including a revenge victory against archrivals Winscombe, and have also reached the semi-final of their plate competition. Under 15, 13 and 11 teams are also enjoying their cricket and turning in some good performances, mention going to fine efforts from Jack Fairs, Lewis Yule, Joe Horsham, Alex Agar and Charlie Spink. Match results and scorecards can be viewed on the 'wrington.play-cricket.com' website.

There will be Saturday afternoon fixtures at the Rec throughout July and August, starting at 2pm, plus home friendly matches on 2, 6, 23 July and 17 August. Youth team matches start at 10am on Sunday and 6.15pm on weekdays. Club nights will continue throughout the season on Tuesday evenings, with net sessions followed by an open bar in the Sports and Social Club. All are welcome to attend.

The second annual Micky Ball Cricket Day will take place at the Rec on Sunday 13 July, and will feature teams representing Wrington CC, Winscombe Rugby Club, Alvis Bros and Yeo Valley Farms competing for the Micky Ball Memorial Shield. The day will start at 10 am and the participants will take part in a series of 10-over matches, leading to a 20-over final between the two most successful teams.

The Club bar will be open during the day's cricket and in the evening there will be a pig roast, courtesy of Alvis Bros, to which all those coming to the Rec to watch the cricket will be welcome. Do join us on 13 July - after last year's washout we are guaranteed fine weather and a great day's cricket!
