With the 2007/2008 season only just completed preparations are already well under way for the forthcoming season.
Although finishing in the lower regions of their division the season can be looked back upon as a qualified success. With many other local teams strugggling for numbers Manager Andy Patch's tremendous enthusiasm meant an ever increasing squad and his biggest headache was often who to leave out. Credit should go to Andy for rotating his squad to give everyone a chance rather than selecting the best eleven each week. It was also extremely pleasing to see eight teenagers playing in the side which should augur well for the future.
The club are delighted that Andy has agreed to continue in his role next season aided by assistants Rob Milne and Adrian Garrett .
The club's Annual presentation evening was a very enjoyable night and superbly supported with the following awards being presented:
Young Players of the Year (joint winners): Ollie Willems and Stu Robertson.
Player of the Year: Sam Devecka
Players' Player of the Year: Mick Edmunds
Clubmen of the Year: Scott Dors and Adam Vowles
A special award was presented to Adrian Garrett for playing after reaching his 50th birthday. It is hoped that his good friend Dave Moss will equal this achievement at the beginning of next season.
The club then embarked on a very successful end of season tour to Teignmouth.
Training for the new season starts on Wednesday 2 July at 6 30 pm at Wrington Recreation Ground . Any new players are more than welcome to what are normally very enjoyable and well attended sessions.
The biggest achievement of the season though, without doubt, was that of secretary Jane Moss. At the Weston and Districts AGM she was presented with the league's Secretary of the Year Award, a fantastic achievement considering the league is made up of around 70 teams.
Jane has been secretary since the club was founded and despite approaches from a number of other clubs she has stayed loyal to Wrington and worked tirelessly along with husband Julian to ensure the club has continued to thrive both on and off the field.
