On your marks to enter the Wrington Fun Run 2008 .....
It’s time to get in training for Wrington’s 28th PTA Fun Run. The number of entrants has increased fourfold in the past three years and with a new sponsor on board Theclub at Cadbury House - the 2008 Wrington Fun Run promises to be the most successful fundraiser since the race began back in 1980.
The race begins at The Pavilion on Wrington’s Recreation Ground at 11am, Sunday, May 18. Race entry forms are now available from local outlets.
The organisers are hoping that the proceeds, from this year’s race entrance fees, will exceed the £700 raised in 2007. Sponsorship of the race allows all proceeds from the entrance fees to be donated to the school.
Manager of theclub, Jason Eaton said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the 28th Wrington PTA Fun Run and to be closely involved in this village event which has gone from strength to strength in recent years. We are proud to back this event because we know how young people take their inspiration to be fit from those around them. That’s what "The Zone" - our brand new children's gym at Theclub - is all about and what an event like a village fun run is all about too.”
Entrants can choose to raise further funds, by sponsorship, for their chosen charity or for the school, or may simply wish to run for fun. The race is 3 miles around the village lanes with runners as young as 4 years or as old as 94 years known to complete the course.
“The children at Wrington School are really enthusiastic about all aspects of healthy living and the village fun run is no exception,” said headteacher, Jane Thomas. ȁWe have already achieved the Active Mark from the Healthy Schools Award thanks to the children’s sports activities. Now it’s time for them to enjoy taking part in a community sports activity and to raise funds for the school at the same time.”
Every runner crossing the finishing line will receive a medal, with further prizes for the winners in each category. The medal and prizes are awarded thanks to sponsorship from Theclub at Cadbury House. There will be several categories of winners including under 8’s, under 12’s , under 16’s, men and women and veterans.
Entry forms are available from Jewells newsagent or Amors stores in the village or by contacting race organiser, Sarah Barnes on 01934 862086 or 07840 736873.
