Langford History Group has been running for over three years now. Originally it was the brainchild of Jo Fryer, who felt there was so much history in Langford and the surrounding area she decided to do something about it. The result was The Langford History Group which meets on the second Thursday of every month, except in August.
Subjects cover a wide range of topics. Many, but by no means all of the talks are about local history. Other topics cover social history, personal recollections of the past and also social events, such as our annual dinner at the Langford Inn, which is always well attended. For the last two years there has been a very entertaining Magic Lantern Show. Refreshments, which include delicious biscuits and occasionally home made cakes, follow the meetings.
The Group has produced a hugely successful book, Every House Tells a Story, which was great fun to produce as well as being an invaluable historical account of many of the houses in the village. It is hoped that future projects will include a second edition of Every House Tells a Story, and on a more practical level learning how to make measured plans and records of our old houses.
The Group has an enthusiastic membership and we are always looking for new members. Visitors are also very welcome to come to any of our meetings. Membership costs £10 per year, and a charge of £2.50 is made for visitors.
