Broad Street Wrington Day Centre

The Annual General Meeting of Wrington Day Centre was held on Thursday 19 October 2000.

Benny Field presented the annual report covering the previous year's programme. She commented on a full and busy year which included many outings, approximately 20 in all, highlighted by a lovely day spent at Chew Lake as a celebration of happy times spent with our dear Joan Vowles who has sadly passed away. Mention was made of the sad loss of Joan Board, a lovely lady and friend.

The Group have enjoyed some very interesting slide shows, Mr. George Martin showing us beautiful scenes of Austria from his cycling tour, and most recently we were treated to an hour of the Great Wall of China given by Rev. Kathy Horder. Our friend Graham Berry shared some of his experiences with the Tear Fund in Zimbabwe.

"At home" we have enjoyed indoor games of all kinds, aerobic displays by Lydia and her team, a demonstration of "quilling" by Sheila and an excellent chat by Jane Warrington on Reflexology.

Two generous friends invited us to their lovely gardens for coffee and sunshine, thanks to Phillipa Perks and Pauline Jefferies.

Easter and Harvest services were taken by Rev Stephen Newell, and a visit to the Chapel listening to Bob Rowe playing our special requests. Several members joined in the Age Concern holiday in Torquay in September and had a happy time.

All these events have been interspersed with some fun shopping expeditions and meals en route! Thanks to Rhona, Lorraine and Barbara - and the bus(!) for shuttling us to and fro.

On the financial front we have a healthy balance sheet, looked after for part of the year by Vi Frappel our Treasurer , who has since retired. Thanks to Vi for her good works and to Olive for taking on those duties.

We have a good programme for the rest of the year, the grand finale being our Christmas Party of 14 December. There will then be a two week break and we will meet up again on 4 January 2001.

Benny warmly thanked all volunteers - the dinner ladies, the vegetable preparers, the pushers on our shopping trips. And particularly thanks to the members for coming along every week and supporting us. Benny Field was re-elected as supervisor and Fiona Jewell as secretary. A new committee was appointed to assist in the funding of the Group in the next 12 months.
