The Summer has now passed, and we are pleased to say that our first Summer School was far more successful than we imagined. The volunteers and committee have received some fantastic responses to their efforts in the village.
WAF continued its policy to publicise and to provide access to art in
Wrington by drawing primarily on local talent. This year we provided a
series of workshops, which gave tuition in a whole range of arts and
crafts, from photography to singing.
If you participated in these, then we would like to thank you for filling
out the questionnaires, which gave us useful and positive feedback.
Most of the courses were over-subscribed, and we tried hard to juggle
people's enthusiasm with our limitations, so for those of you who weren't
able to get a place, please accept our apologies, and we will try to
incorporate the demand in future years.
Talking of limitations, this brings us to our call to arms for anyone who
fancies joining our core committee, and being part of these events.
Realistically we need more people to share the administrative
responsibilities, who may/may not have an interest in a particular field
e.g. music, fine art, craft etc. If you are interested in joining, and
able to attend meetings prior to and during a series of workshops or
festival, then it would be nice to hear from you.
We are holding a meeting for tutors and interested parties to discuss future direction at the Plough Inn on Monday 12 November at 7.30pm, so please
come along and introduce yourself.
Next year...
Because the Village Pageant is such a busy time for many of us we have
decided not to hold a WAF event next summer. Instead, we hope to provide
something along the lines of what we have been doing in 2003.
Nevertheless, it would be nice to meet any interested parties well in
advance.
WAF is essentially funded by NIACE (The National Institute of Adult
Continuing Education). NIACE isn't North Somerset Council, but a
government- funded organisation, as the name suggests.
The youth activities are not fully funded, and the children's activities
not at all by NIACE, and rely almost exclusively on local support. This is
one of the reasons why more workshops for the children & youth have not
been incorporated.
WAF is, then, a charity for adults, which can't bear to leave the children
out!
If you haven't seen this list already then we would like to thank the
following people for their sponsorship.
See you 12 November!
