Wrington Parish Council
Annual Report 2006 |
|
| This is the first ever Parish Council newsletter, produced to let you know more about our plans and what we’ve been doing over the past year - as those of you who responded to the Parish Plan questionnaire said you’d like more information about what the Council does. The Council’s role is to work on behalf of the community and we want to help wherever we can so please try to come along to our Parish Meeting which is being held on 28th April. We’ll be very pleased to meet you and to help with any concerns you have about parish matters. If you can’t be there feel free to ask for information on any of the subjects mentioned below or for guidance on any other matters. Contact details are shown on the back page. |

| Chairman’s Report As I write my 14th annual review, I am pleased that this report will be distributed throughout the parish and hope that it will help residents appreciate the range of - This year, as ever, there have been all the usual issues traffic, parking, aircraft noise, footpaths, dog mess, play areas, blocked drains and street lighting these are always with us. Some new hours applied for under changes to the licensing regulations gave - Over 300 people came and offered their opinions at the Parish Plan exhibitions. - PC Kim Tacchi, our beat manager, reports regularly to the Council on police matters and crime in the parish which, I’m pleased to say, is relatively low. Community Support Officers have occasionally visited but the police bus wasn’t utilised effectively and visits have been discontinued. - We are still talking to NSC about a footway on Downside Road to create a safe pedestrians route, together with related traffic management measures. New gates have been erected at Alburys/Ladywell, allowing those with pushchairs a safer walk to the village and an up-to-date survey is planned for footpaths and bridleways across the parish. - A special meeting was held to discuss the airport Master Plan, and we were pleased to see the Planning Inspector agree with us that car parking should be concentrated on the north side, where he proposed that BIA land should be taken out of the Green Belt. He recommended the possibility of multi-storey parking to reduce the impact of parked cars on the landscape. We must continue to monitor future development plans carefully. - Due mainly to a new pay structure for parish clerks, an increase in precept has to be made from £58300 to £64000, with some additional budget requirements to |
be taken from reserves. As part of the pay negotiation, it was agreed that the John Locke Room would become the parish office. - The cost of the Youth Bus has risen to £5,245 per year. Having reviewed the numbers using the Bus, both in Redhill and Wrington, we feel it still provides a valuable and effective service. - Thanks to those who have worked hard to provide funds for the skateboard park. This will be completed as soon as the field is dry enough for contractors to work. - A great deal of interest has been generated regarding the future of Brook House. No proposals have yet been seen but I hope the community will be consulted on its future. - I would like to thank all councillors for their time and effort; the paperwork grows every year, especially concerning consultation responses. Also, I thank all the people who keep clubs and organisations alive in the parish. Once again, the Dickensian Fayre and Christmas lights were a great success long may it continue.
