Broad Street Wrington
PARISH COUNCIL

Entry in the current issue of the Village Journal

I am sure that we have all been concerned for those directly affected and for the village in general, about the current wave of serious vandalism which seems to be sweeping through the village. The four garden sheds completely burnt out on the allotments is on a scale which I don't think we have experienced before. Also, over the last year or so, the Tennis Club has had its surrounding wire fencing badly damaged by sections being cut away and even the tennis nets have been cut. The skateboard park has also been subject to arson. Although less important, the fence surrounding the children's play area off Church Walk has been broken and a couple of waste bins burnt out. All the
replacements for these items come at a cost to the Village as a whole. The Police are on the job but of course cannot guarantee to be there at the time it happens. If you see such damage when it is happening, phone 999. If you witness it after the event phone 0845 4567000. If we want to stop this, then we all have to keep our eyes open and be prepared to report it.

On a more pleasant note, we have now formally agreed to twin with Villeneuve-les-Beziers in southern
France. Please see a separate article on how people can get involved.

Chairwoman

The recycling revolution has been running for a number of weeks now - the recycling collectors have an enormous quantity of on-the-job sorting to do from the green boxes, which adds considerably to the time needed for them to get around the village. It would be of great help to them if residents could try and separate some or all of their rubbish within the green boxes; metal and bottles together, plastics, paper and cardboard separated if possible. This is obviously not a requirement, but something that may help the trucks do their job more efficiently and quickly.

Unfortunately, the Playbuilder scheme to install new play equipment in the play area of the recreation field has been a casualty of recent government cutbacks. This is very disappointing, but there are possibly other avenues that can be pursued to try and obtain funds from elsewhere.

The new administrative assistant in the Parish Office, Judith Bishop, is now in post for 10 hours a week and a new caretaker for the Memorial Hall, Jo Dean, has been appointed to start at the beginning of September. Jo Dean, her partner Tom and their children will be moving into the John
Locke House at the end of August.
