Wrington Village Journal
Editorial
October issue

Mists and melancholy...

Sadly, the October issue of the
Village Journal marks the loss of a number of very well known and well loved local people, from both Wrington and Butcombe (see page and page. Our sympathies go to their friends and families.

The current issue has given me the opportunity to include some of the contributions that didn’t quite make it into last month’s Village Journal. After the September Journal came out I had a complaint that a particular piece that someone had an interest in
had been omitted; however I’ve managed to make room for it in these pages.

I prefaced last month’s editorial with some remarks about the problems of having to choose from an abundance of riches. In fact the job of editor often consists largely of having to make difficult decisions of this nature.

As I confessed at the recent meeting with our Journal Distributors, I may grumble and groan a lot about the job - but I do enjoy it really. To be fair I did also receive some
very gratifying positive feedback from several readers about last month’s issue. It is heartwarming to know that the Village Journal is perceived by many people to be an enjoyable and useful publication. More particularly it is an acknowledgment of the
Journal’s contributors and correspondents, and indeed of the organisations and communities that they represent and report from.

Autumn term at our local schools is now well under way. My own offspring has just returned from School Camp in North Devon. I can tell that he had a simply
marvellous
time by the amount of mud that was still clinging to his clothes when he
got back. Our thanks and sympathy go to the noble teachers who took him and his class away for the week - I wonder if they have recovered yet?
