February

Cosi fan tutte ...

Here we are in February already,
and the forecast Arctic Winter seems as far off as the famous Barbecue Summer we never had last year. I hope I’m not tempting fate...

My wife, Ali, and I have received many comments - nay, compliments - following her stunning performance as the Evil Queen Belladonna in the Wrington Drama Club’s recent pantomime ‘Snow White’.

I hasten to point out that any references to a certain ‘Iron Lady’ will be studiously ignored - Ali is in fact a very gentle and retiring creature, and, if she dared, would no doubt accuse me of favouritism by singling her out among many other fine performances in the panto. Normally I would have written the review myself, but I felt too close to this one, so I passed it on to a friend who is familiar with recent Drama Club productions, and you can read her article elsewhere.

If you have access to a computer, you can see many more excellent photos on the Wrington website: <http://www.wrington.net/webarchive/2012/snowwhite.htm>

A young Wringtonian, Leah Senington, the daughter of a friend and colleague of mine, has not only achieved the remarkable feat of
climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, she has also written very movingly about her experiences, and her reasons for doing so.

Now, three young Wrington women are planning to go to the slums of Calcutta in July to work for a children’s charityWrington women, eh? They’re unstoppable!

                                                         Guidelines for contributors

1 Although I am prepared to type very short items, I feel that it is really up to contributors to find a friend to type up longer pieces if they are unable to do so themselves.

2 If you email me, please don’t embed photos or logos in your text. Send them as separate attachments, and at the highest resolution you can manage. Some of you might be astonished at how dull and dowdy glowing colour images on computer screens become when they are reduced in size, changed to black and white, and printed on paper.

3 For all normal submissions about the everyday events and activities of clubs and institutions around our villages, one page of the Journal ought to be sufficient space. That’s approximately 400-420 words. So please exercise moderation; as Editor I have to try to be fair and make room for everyone else’s pieces as well as yours. Excessively long articles may have to be reduced, either in length, or font size, or both.
