1987 - Country Fresh
Conversation recorded 20th August

Janet Bell had taken over the general purpose shop on the corner of the Triangle from Mr & Mrs Parsley, and with Gina Moss, ran it as Country Fresh, with fresh vegetables.

By 20th August, 1987, she was running down the stock in preparation for closing down the business.
"I took it over about 5 years ago. I heard Mr & Mrs Parsley were closing down and I always thought I'd like to take on a shop business ...
... originally it was probably best known as a hardware shop, but you've had to change the stock somewhat to accommodate people's needs ...
... the garden side goes very well, with house plants and bedding plants. ...
... the seeds .. Fothergill seeds. The most popular lines are the garden goods .. peat, compost, house plants.....
... you learn by your mistakes - you get one or two things in that you realise don't sell ...
... don't sell as much wool as we used to. I don't know if there's fewer people knitting these days ...
