New priest for Christ Church, Redhill

It was confirmed at services in All Saints' on Pentecost Sunday that the priest to replace the Revd Tom Ekin when he retires in October will be the Revd Judith Malins.

Representatives of all the parishes in the benefice had had an opportunity to meet her on 12th May - the evening before interviews were held for the post.

She will be licensed by the Bishop of Bath & Wells a couple of days after Tom moves to live in his new home Wrington.
Judith and her husband, Ken, have three children, two of whom live in North Somerset.

Judith was educated at Bristol University where she read for a degree in Classics, and subsequently obtained qualifications in applied social studies, child care, social work, training of teachers, and theology.

Before she was ordained she worked as a
child care officer in child protection, adoption and fostering in London, in residential care for Kent CC, and as a foster parent for 2 years. She worked for 7 years in a district general hospital, 5 of which managing a social work team, then 1 year as a training officer. She then worked for Wiltshire CC for 6 years managing an adult care team of 20 staff with responsibility for delivering social care services in part of Wiltshire

In 2000 she was ordained Deacon in the Salisbury diocese, and priested in 2001. She has worked as curate and priest-in-charge in a number of parishes, and presently is Priest-in-charge at Kingston, Langton Matravers and Worth Matravers (Isle of Purbeck, Dorset) supported by a licensed Lay Minister and two retired priests.

She has been a g
overnor, ex officio, of a C of E VA First School for 5 years (Chair for 1 year), and a trustee of Corfe Castle charity, again ex officio.
